Preschool/Elementary in Action

Here at Seacoast Christian Preschool, we emphasize community.

Parents should feel comfortable and confident sending their children to school here, and they should sense that we are interested in building relationships with them, supporting them as they raise their children, and partnering with them to “train up a child in the way he should go.”

So, what’s it like to be a part of our community? What can you expect for your child? We sat down with Preschool Director Angel Gastfield to dig a little deeper and answer some of the common questions our prospective parents have.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE IN THE PRESCHOOL PROGRAM?

The learning part of the day begins at 9:00 a.m. Each age group does a large group circle time that includes reading a book and introducing or reviewing shapes, letters, and numbers (depending on the age). During student directed play time, teachers work with small groups, engaging students through age-appropriate activities. They get 30 minutes outside time each morning and afternoon.

Bible time includes stories, reviewing the Bible verse, Bible songs, and character development. Each age group has rest time (depending on the age). Afternoons typically include more small group time, reading, outside play, and free play in the classroom.

WHAT CAN PARENTS EXPECT THEIR CHILDREN TO LEARN?

Learning to love Jesus and how to treat others with love and respect is the most important thing we can teach your child at Seacoast Christian Academy!

In addition, our students learn self-help skills, such as cleaning up after playing, throwing away their trash, washing hands, and more.

Our teachers work with students on social/emotional skills, showing them how to treat others, share, resolve conflict with peers using verbal communication, line up, and follow directions.

We also have very high academic standards and realize each child has a unique learning style. The teachers are trained to challenge each child to his/her individual level by developing activities to help them learn letters, sounds, numbers, counting and eventually reading and higher thinking math skills.

WHAT SPECIALS DOES THE PRESCHOOL PARTICIPATE IN DURING THE WEEK?

All of our preschool students participate in daily pledges, prayer and devotion. Chapel takes place once a week on Wednesdays.

DESCRIBE THE CHRISTIAN EXPERIENCE IN THE PROGRAM.

The Christian experience is not limited to a specific time. It’ s something our teachers integrate throughout the day by praying before meals, daily devotions, music, engaging children in God’s creation and encouraging them to pray with each other and with teachers.

In addition, Bible verses are introduced each week and the concept is discussed in the classroom and in our weekly chapel. Chapel is an important part of the week. Praise and worship music, Bible verses and stories, and Christian character are brought to life through age-appropriate lessons and engaging skits.

WHAT ARE THE TEACHERS LIKE?

Seacoast Christian Preschool’s teachers are loving Christians who understand the importance of educating the whole child – mind, body and spirit. They are encouraged to be creative in teaching our curriculum, dedicated to each child and family and are committed to the safety of each child. All of our teachers have their CDA credentials or a degree in Early Education. Our staff are committed to developing strong relationships with families to help children become the best they can be!
